Yahoo Gives Home Page a Facelift

Yahoo! updated the home page of its search Site as part of an overhaul intended to make it easier to access more popular web properties.

(SyndicateMyNews) - Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) updated the home page of its Search Site as part of an overhaul to its website which is intended to make it easier to access more popular web properties.

Yahoo is promoting the change to its search home page as the biggest upgrade since the search directory launched almost 15 years ago.

A Yahoo executive involved in the homepage upgrade said many items which belonged to Yahoo! that weren't working that well were removed, calling them "a dead zone for users".

If you're in the UK, France or India, you won't be able to see the new homepage - at least not until next week, Yahoo! said.

Yahoo! said it took nearly 10 months to complete the redsign and fortunately for the No. 2 U.S. search engine, it came just as Microsoft's Bing.com began chipping away at Yahoo's U.S. search market share, having given up 5% market share to Bing.com.

The revised look came months before Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz joined the Company, so if you're wondering if Bartz spearheaded the redesign, the answer is absolutely not!

At the time Yahoo! isn't offering any social posting like Twitter, though its spokesperson said it would eventually include it. But of the 65 apps included on Yahoo's new page, users now have choices of accessing Google Mail or AOL through their My Favorites section of the redesigned site.
